Thomas J. Ivanec Announces Candidacy for Region 6 Director

I am announcing my candidacy for FCSU Region 6 Director at the 52nd Quadrennial Convention, July 31 – August 2, 2022. I was honored to have been elected to this position at the last Convention in 2018. Since I assumed the office in January of 2019, I have worked diligently to fulfill the duties entrusted to me according to the bylaws of our great Society. This includes serving on the FCSU National Board of Directors where I have attended every meeting as well as those of the Executive Committee Meeting by invitation of the National President.

By now, I have attended numerous District and Branch Meetings and functions. I am extremely proud of the fact that although much of my term has been COVID-challenged my District and Branch Officers along with our members have worked hard to keep FCSU fraternalism alive and well. I have done my part to help in any way possible: helping to set up and host virtual meetings, participating in in-person meetings as soon as it was safe to do so for membership, and helping organize family-friendly activities such as district-wide minor league sporting events as well as encouraging our members to attend and support the many local Slovak-American organizations throughout our Region. These include organizing ticket discounts to the Cleveland Slovak Radio Club Picnic, Slovak Heritage Society of Greater Cleveland Pig Roast, and Vilija (Christmas Eve re-enactment) that benefits the Slovak-founded Benedictine monastery of St. Andrew Abbey Svorad.

In addition, I am the Fraternal Activities Director for Branch 24 and am very involved in the greater Cleveland Slovak-American community. I am the President of the Slovak Heritage Society of Greater Cleveland, the Founder and Director of Lucina Slovak Folklore Ensemble, and a member of the Cleveland Slovak Radio Club, and the American-Slovak Zemplin Social Club.

I am passionate about the future of our Society, and my wife Terri and I hope our children and grandchildren, all of whom are members, can continue to enjoy a strong and thriving Jednota.

I thank the delegates of Region 6 for the trust you placed in me in 2018. I ask for your vote this year so that together we may continue to keep our region a vital part of our beloved Jednota.
