Fraternal Activities

 
  • Served as Interim National Treasurer and evaluating bond and intellectual property investments with consultant Larry White of AQS, our investment advisor.

  • Regional Director for the past 12 years and serves on the Board of Directors by providing input on our investment policies and fraternal operations of the F.C.S.U.

  • Attended webinar by AQS regarding the evaluation of real estate investing.

  • Top proposer of insurance sales in 2010 and 2013, second in 2014 and third in 2015.

  • Designer of the F.C.S.U. memorial in Middletown, PA that was dedicated on September 13, 2015.  Worked with the F.C.S.U. President on establishing the budget, the types of materials and final design.

  • Current President of the Frank T. Holly, Jr. District #9 in Region IV.

  • Appointed and served as a Supreme Court member under President Tom Hricik.

  • Former president of St. Wendelin Branch 162 where he encouraged and inspired other family members to become involved with the society.

  • Served on the Jednota, Inc. board and later on the Jednota Properties, Inc. board as President and Property Manager of Building Number 2 for four years.  Duties included lease negotiations, planning improvement and maintenance budget, managing the income and expenses of over a half million dollars in rent and over $250K in profits in the ending years of the lease.  On November 1, 2019, the property was sold for $4.7 million.

  • Attended five national conventions, two national picnics, and multiple bowling and golf banquets and various regional and local events.

  • Attended Membership Meets in Branson, MO, and various cruises.

  • Maintains an active fraternal insurance license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Education

 
  • Attended the Penn State University Fayette Campus and received an associate degree in Architectural Engineering Technology and graduated first in his class.

  • Received an Associate Degree in Solar Heating and Cooling Technology from the Penn State University Fayette Campus.

  • Attended West Virginia University, studying Civil Engineering.

  • Certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Building Code Official, a Commercial and Residential Building Plans Examiner, Commercial and Residential Building Inspector, a Commercial Accessible Plans Examiner and Inspector and a Residential Energy Inspector. Largest project plan review was the Elliott Group’s $60 million facility in Jeannette.

Career

 
  • Employed by McMillen Engineering, Inc., a civil consulting engineering company in his hometown.  Started working in his second year of college and advanced to managing a survey crew of 3 coworkers.

  • Developed architectural career at Alpha Associates, Inc. in Morgantown, West Virginia as an architectural draftsman and later became an architectural project manager.  Duties ranged from drafting detail and design layouts, preparing project specifications, to doing the actual designs and preparing construction budgets for projects ranging from $500K up to $12 million.

  • Returned to Uniontown to work for Altman and Altman Architects.

  • Enhanced his project budgeting skills as an estimator at General Industries, a general contractor located in Speers, PA.

  • Employed with K2 Engineering, Inc. in Uniontown for the past 19 1/2 years where he is a Sr. Architectural Project Manager managing million dollar design/construction projects.  Duties include meeting with clients, preparing proposals, specifications and contracts, developing floor plans and all construction details while working with civil and structural engineers, coordinating the designs with mechanical, plumbing and electrical engineers, preparing bid documents, construction management and administration.  Items in particular include reviewing construction schedules, contractor’s schedule of values, review and approve pay applications, change orders and project closeout.

  • Certified as a Senior Engineering Technician by the National Institute for the Certification of Engineering Technologists (N.I.C.E.T.) in Alexandria, VA.

  • Commercial building plan reviews and inspections with a recent project review of the Fayette County Prison, that will house 330 inmates at a cost of approximately $40 million.

  • Created an Excel spreadsheet for wife’s daycare to include private and government subsidy income, generate federal, state and local tax amounts for payment, monthly utility expenses, operational and miscellaneous expenses, track home improvements and mileage which was shared with other day care providers.

Community

 
  • Serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and is on the Supervisory Committee for the Frick Financial Federal Credit Union with over $117 million in assets.

  • Led Annual Board Meeting due to the Chairman’s absence.

  • A member of the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission Public Participation Panel.  The purpose of the panel is to provide public comment and participation to the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC) on major transportation decisions and to advise the SPC on ways to strengthen its public involvement program.

  • Previously served on the board of directors for the Fayette County Habitat for Humanity.

  • Former Secretary/Treasurer of the War and Veterans organization.

  • Served on the Land Preservation committee where he was appointed by the Fayette County Commissioners.

  • Designed a memorial to honor the WWII veterans who lived and left from the city of Uniontown.  Worked with the War and Veterans Committee to establish and hold the construction budget.  The memorial stands next to the Fayette County Courthouse.

  • Attends St. Mary Nativity R.C. Church, a Slovak based membership, and was an Alter Boy until the end of high school.  Served as a Lector and Usher.

  • Member of the Knights of Columbus and the Hutchinson Sportsmen Club.
